Rio das Ostras' First Planned Neighborhood Will Be "Green"

Translated from this article, written by

Quality of life in the form of a 'Green Neighborhood' in Rio das Ostras.

The first planned neighborhood of Rio das Ostras values sustainability, and the landscaping of Burle Marx's office will provide 3000 seedlings before June.

The condominium Viverde, by Brussels Empreendimentos, will be the first planned neighborhood of Rio das Ostras. Located in Extensão do Bosque the landscaping is a project of Burle Marx's office, which will focus on nature.

The names of 10 streets and squares 9, which are still being defined, will take inspiration from the flora and fauna of the Atlantic forest. Situated next to a forest reserve of 200,000 m², the enterprise will receive more than 3,000 tree seedlings of different native species by June 2012, in the plan of reforestation.

The building has been surveyed and has licenses from the Municipal Prefecture of Rio das Ostras, the State Environmental Institute (INEA) and even the army, proving, according to the local executive, that all stages of work, besides being sustainable, are within the normal rules of security. The company is duplicating two kilometers of a water main pipeline so the neighborhood does not suffer from the constant water supply problems affecting the region of Rio das Ostras.

The district will capture water  from rain and artesian wells, which will be used for cleaning and irrigation. Heating the water in the pool club will be done through solar-powered boiler, saving electricity. The wood used in the decoration of the office will come from reforestation, cataloged as being environmentally friendly. In addition to garbage collection, the condominium will also provide the proper disposal of waste that is sent to landfill.

A sewage treatment plant will be installed by a third party. On average 270,000 liters of waste water per day will be processed, but the capacity is to treat up to 483,000 liters per day. The project provides adequate treatment for 99% of waste so it is directed to the river network correctly, without causing environmental damage. The owners of the land during the construction of houses will need to present the manifesto, a document that proves that construction waste was sent to landfill."
