June 2011 - 9th Annual Festival of Jazz & Blues

Rio das Ostras prepares to hold another edition of Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival, taking place on the 22nd through the 26th of June, with free concerts on three outdoor stages. The festival, held by the Municipality, through the Department of Tourism, Trade and Industry, produced by Blue Productions, will again present great singers and instrumentalists of the genre.

The lineup includes Medeski, Martin & Wood and saxophonist Bill Evans, trumpeter Nicholas Payton and the band of electro-acoustic jazz Yellowjackets, who come to the festival to launch their new CD. Rio das Ostras will also be the stage of the unexpected meeting of two icons of Brazilian instrumental music: Léo Gandelman and Azymuth.

In all, five days of free concerts with performances at 11:15am (Praça de São Pedro), 2:15pm (Lagoa do Iriry), 5:15pm (Tartaruga) and 8:00pm (Costazul - Cidade do Jazz).

The Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival is considered the best in Latin America by Downbeat magazine, best known as the "bible" of jazz and blues, among the 160 best festivals in the world.
