Another Blunder

[Article from Secom Rio das Ostras - my translation]

The City of Rio das Ostras is constructing a Fire Department headquarters but the corporation says they were not advised.

The Commander General of the Fire Department headquarters denies knowledge of the construction of the building in the city. The population is served by the Fire Department headquarters in Macae, which is 23 km away. The construction being done by the City to house the Military Police and the Fire Department is causing an impasse in Rio das Ostras.

Despite the investment of R$2 million, the Commander General of the Fire Department is unaware of the project, and says there is no provision to allocate manpower and equipment to occupy the building. The work is a longstanding demand of the residents, since the city has no fire station. The population is served by the Fire Department headquarters in Macae which is 23 km away.

However, the Commander General of the Fire Department gave a statement that he did not know about the construction of the headquarters and, to date, no formal request for personnel and operational equipment has been made. The county attorney disputes this. He says that in 2004, an agreement was signed with the state for installation of the fire brigade base. At that time a city ordinance would have been created allowing the city to build the site and donate to the state. Work has already begun on the construction site. The workers have done the excavation of more than five thousand square meters at the building site, preparing it for the Fire Department headquarters.
